Working
People on TV often seem to have the ideal job- and that's not counting the way that half of them can just suddenly take off to fight crime without getting canned. The characters are made, more or less, for their particular jobs, which is why the fit seems so perfect. It does make one wonder, though, how well they might do in another occupation...
Gil Grissom (CSI) as an exterminator: "So if you just leave a sugar cube here at the opening, the ants won't need to forage any further- what do you mean, 'insecticide?' "
Sawyer (Lost) as a priest: "You see, there's an old church custom called an 'indulgence.' Now while I can take a check, are you sure you'd want to leave a paper trail there...?"
Homer Simpson (The Simpsons) as, well... anything, really. It's pretty much a given he wouldn't "D'oh!" a very good job...
Jerry Seinfeld (Seinfeld) as a lawyer: "Did you ever notice how everyone who is accused almost always pleads 'Not guilty?' Why do the police keep arresting people who aren't guilty? Are they just easier to find than people who are guilty?"
Gregory House (House, M.D.) as a suicide hotline operator: "Go ahead and jump. Jerk."
Any member of the A-Team as a marksmanship instructor: After four years and eight tons of bullets- did they ever actually hit anyone?
Worf (Star Trek) as a public school teacher: (Chopping papers into little slips with a bat'leth before throwing them back into the student's face) "Your book report on Catcher in the Rye has no honor!!"
Marge Simpson (The Simpsons) as a dominatrix: Outside of a few bad fanfics she just doesn't have the mindset for that sort of work.
Sharon Agathon (Galactica) as a dominatrix: Works for me.
Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as a suntan-lotion model: Unless it's SPF 2,000,000 he's going to have a really bad day...
Gaius Baltar (Galactica) as a used-car salesman: Sure he can out-glib anything in the Thirteen Colonies... but who's going to actually believe him?
Dr. Girlfriend (Venture Brothers) as, well, anything- no man would ever fire her!
Peter Griffin (Family Guy) as President of the United States: Well, one could argue that he's smarter than the one we've already got...
Adrian Monk (Monk) as a toxic waste cleanup tech: He'd never manage to even get into the HazMat suit.
You get the idea. TV folk are virtually born into a particular line of work, and would be very out of place in another job- no doubt anyone reading this has a few candidates as well...
