The new 90210...
In Australia the spin-off, remake, new version of the old Beverly Hills 90210 was axed by Channel Ten after it failed to give the ratings that were expected. As far as teen shows, this wasn't bad at all and I'm disappointed that it was axed (though not at all surprised). The main characters, Annie and Dixon are seriously cute but they're so squeaky clean it makes me feel a little bit nauseous, but it has something that keeps me coming back to it. I have a feeling that the 'something' it has is more to do with the cameo appearances of the old cast members (and a burning, burning desire to see Dylan come back) than the dramas of the new teen cast. Though, I must admit that I've been suckered in again this week and there hasn't been any Kelly, Brenda or mentions of Dylan, David, Brandon and the rest of the gang. Or perhaps that something is my love for Veronica Mars and her creator, Rob Thomas. When I heard he had collaboratively created this I must admit that I knew I was going to watch it no matter how bad it was.
I'm lucky enough to have a friend in the States who videotapes my shows and posts them to me when the tape is full. This week, I've indulged in episodes 8 and 9 of 90210 and I've enjoyed both. I'm not going to spoil because I know there are lots of people waiting for summer TV season and hoping that Channel Ten comes good on the promise to play the remaing episodes. What I will say is, keep watching. It's predicatable but predictable in the good way. There are romances, undercover cops, drug raids, overdoses, dorky guys getting the popular girls, sweet little Annie from Kansas getting drunk for the first time and apparently this week in the States, Kelly comes back after visiting Dylan.
I like 90210, but it's no Gossip Girl (I will get to Gossip Girl by the weekend, I promise)
Coming up over next: more CSI, I finally get to Gossip Girl and the latest Heroes and maybe, just maybe I'll unwrap those 30 Rock DVDs that have been on my shelf for a year.
