TeeVee: American Idol, Season 10 Premieres TONIGHT
American Idol, Season 10 (TONIGHT at 8PM on FOX)
2011 brings plenty of changes to one of the biggest competition reality shows of all time, American Idol. If you're a fan of the show, as I am, I'm sure you know about those changes, but just in case, I'll tell you about some of them.
1. New Day Slot - instead of the Tuesdays/Wednesdays from January to May, we're going to have Wednesday Thursdays. The first rounds of auditions premiere tonight (Jan. 19th) and continue tomorrow (Jan. 20th)
2. New Judges - There's no more Kara, no more Ellen and no more Simon Cowell. In their places sit Aerosmith's front man, Steven Tyler, and solo artist, actress and dancer Jennifer Lopez. Randy "The Dawg" Jackson will still be around for nostalgia.
3. Changes in Narrowing Down Contestants - don't be surprised if there's an uneven number of males to females, the producers aren't holding to the precedent they have to be even going into the Top 10/12 scenerio. Oh, they haven't decided if they're will be a Top 10/12 yet either... There will be an extra "Las Vegas - Sudden Death" round(s) after Hollywood to help narrow it down to the Top ones.
4. Opened up Auditions - The age limit was lowered to 15, and they were taking MySpace video auditions as well...
6. Less Instruments, Possibly Original Songs - They're still working on the "rules", but some that have been tossed out for discussion is the use of instruments: like a contestant can only play an instrument once. AND there could be a point where contestant's original songs could be heard live on stage.
SO, are you excited for tonight?! I'm both excited AND nervous. I'm not sure if I can handle all of these changes to what has become an odd comfort for 9 years. But, I thought I handled the loss of Paula Abdul quite well last season, so I'll just have to see if all these things vibe together... check back tomorrow!
