TeeVee: American Idol Austin Auditions
American Idol, Season 10 (Wednesdays & Thursdays at 8PM on FOX)
AI auditions were in Austin, TX last night where over 75,000 showed up but only 50 got Golden Tickets to Hollywood. Plus Marc Anthony was there! But before we got to any of that, AI decided to issue an “apology” for S.Ty’s behavior thus far… Really?! Lame.
Corey Levoy – The 21 years old with the sister he didn’t know growing up, but are now besties. Carrie got to come in and “judge” his audition of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me”, he sings much smoother/lower than his natural speaking voice and wins over all the judges. He gets a Golden Ticket, then shows off his “J.Lo booty”.
Hollie Cavanaugh – The 17 year old that initially sings Etta James’ “At Last” which was shaky at best. They all think she was all over the place and needs some work; Randy gives her a no, and she starts to break down. J.Lo seems to see something in her, and asks if she can compose herself enough to do another song. A commercial break later, she’s able to work her way through Miley Cryus’ “The Climb” and gets a yes from the judges (even Randy changes his mind).
A Golden Ticket Montage where we barely can tell who's singing what and what comments were given to who... But here are the names: Shauntel Campos, Alex Carr, Caleb Johnson
John Wayne Schulz – The 23 year old bonafide cowboy that decided to audition after promising his mom he would during her battle with breast cancer (she’s okay!). He sings Brooks & Dunn’s “Believe” and the judges completely believe he believed… or something. He gets to bring in his parents for the judges to give him the Golden Ticket, and then rounds of feet-off-the-floor-spinning-a round hugs were given out (all including Seacrest).
Courtney Penry – The 17-year old with the stalker-crazy-eyed crush on Seacrest. It all seemed for show to me, but it got her in front of the judges, so good for her. She tells J.Lo she’s gorgeous, and Randy has to step in and get a compliment for himself too, as she mouthed “I love you” to S.Ty. Then she does a chicken impression for them. Then she finally sings Sugarland’s “Stay” and was mediocre at best. But the judges think she has star quality (and some bad habits) and pushes her through to Hollywood.
Jacqueline Dunford and Nick Fink – Wanna-be "1st Power Couple of AI" – She’s 22, he’s 19 that had the extremely cheesy “love” segment.
Jacqueline goes first and sings “Mercy”… I didn’t dig it - it was too high and screechy for my taste. Then Nick sang “Sunday Morning” with a Frank Sinatra-esque twist. The judges liked them both and sent them through to Hollywood.
Janelle Arthur – The 20 year old who’s family pushed her to try out to show the world she’s a star. She sang “Syrup and Honey” first, but S.Ty wanted to hear a more upbeat song. She switched over to “No One Needs to Know”. I thought she did both well, and the judges give her a Golden Ticket.
Casey Abrams - The 19 year old with the Melodica and seemed really fun during his intro clip. He was nervous about being the last audition, but after a pep talk from Seacrest he went in a nailed a rendition of Ray Charles’ “I Don’t Need No Doctor”, he got a quick yes from the judges.
Now for the bad...
The WHACKEST Audition Award = Rodolfo Ochoa - The 17-year old that sang "The Circle of Life"... he was the only bad audition that got his own segment (not a montage clip), so therefore he wins this award. Congrats.
Honorable Mention - The Armadillo Chick - We didn't hear her sing a lyc but we did she her in and out of her costume.
