So You Think You Can Dance - Putting the fusing in confusing
I really didn't want to post about a reality television program that searches for Australia's best dancer, but as I am a watcher of the program, there was this compulsion to say something about tonights episode.
Firstly, Mary Murphy....as much as she is loud and in your face enthusiastic, she really did bring a much needed boost to the judges table this week. She made some interesting comments, in which is part of the reason behind this post.
Mary made the comments "I don't really know what Soul Swing is" and "I'm not sure what contemporary disco is" and I completely agree. There was a lot of negative comments from Jason about the dancing and towards the end Jason made reference to "Good dancers doing bad choreography" but it's not simply that.
What's with the fusing of dance genre's? Is it to make the Australian version different from the American? Soul Swing, Bollywood Hip Hop, Contemporary Disco and last week we saw Animated Hip Hop, Swing Hip Hop, Contemporary Jazz and Lyrical Contemporary the week before that Lyrical Hip Hop. Where is the Jive, Hip Hop, 80's, Disco, and other genre specific dances? No wonder the dancers are having so much difficulty in performing a routine that will not only showcase their talents but be impressive to the judges.

Although, I do like the names they come up with! Perhaps they are trying to stress on the importance of 'versatile' - they have been repeating that word with every dancer.
Crazy Kate
I look forward to watching the show each year. My beef about the show is that it should be a guy and girl as winners because the dance routines are done as couples and a guy dance different from a girl and visa versa. I hope next season they would consider doing it that way. This season was the best! All four of them were very good, but it should have been a guy and a girl as winners. Its time for a change. Lets not get stale with doing the same things every season. The audience will lose interest in the show.
Please consider my comments. I speak for my family and my co-workers.
Thanks.
