Peter Combe & The Bedroom Philosopher - review 14/10/07
Welcome to the first official review on the all new TVWATCHERS.NET.
What can one say about Peter Combe other than fabulous. This TV star from the past has recently embarked on a tour across the nation (Australia) to provide a retrospective look at his forte - music for kids.
The evening started blissfully as I was welcome to host The Bedroom Philosopher at my house.
*Yes I must disclose that The Bedroom Philosopher (aka Justin Heazlewood) is a good friend of mine who also doubled as the MC at my wedding)*.
The night was launched by an impressive back catalogue of numbers by The Bedroom Philosopher including "Golden Gay Time"," I'm So Postmodern" and "Megan The Vegan". After having seen him heaps of time I must say that he like a bottle of wine gets better with age. His latest single "The Happiest Boy" a case in point as it demonstrates not only a capacity to impress with lyrical quirkiness but also is refined in its structure and performance.
In what can only be described as the best pre Coombe performance The Bedroom Philosopher played one of my personal favourites "Generation ABC" which reminds the listener of the golden classics of the Combe era, including Combe himself.
Peter Combe was absolutely amazing. Every song joined in chorus by the audience in what seemed like a surreal moment. From your most punkest of punks to the gothest of goths singing along, brought a tear to the eye. Although I recalled most of the tracks, others were obviously obsessed and engulfed in the cult of Combe.
This kind of entertainment is hard to find these days. I myself become bored with The Wiggles and non plussed about High 5 but was genuinely still captured by Coombe beyond the historical element. Combe broke down the social barriers that would normally exist in a venue such as The Republic and shined through as a beacon of hope.
Apparently as what started from a myspace profile on Combe has turned into the ultimate return to ones youth. If the fountain of youth is ever likely, Combe and indeed The Bedroom Philosopher are providing the music to take us there.
