New2DeeVeeDee: I Love You, Man
I Love You, Man
I Love You, Man (2009 Comedy). Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd) is a real estate salesman, who just got engaged to Zooey Rice (Rashida Jones). Zooey is ecatatic about the engagement and calls her friends to tell them about it, but Peter doesn't seem to have anyone special he'd like th share the good new with. At Peter's parents' house it comes out that Peter is actually a 'girlfriend guy' and never really had guy friends. After overhearing Zooey's friends tell her that they are concerned Peter doesn't have any friends, Peter realizes he needs to find some, in order to even out the brial party. He goes on several 'man-dates' and this is by far the funniest part of the movie. (Just think, projectile vomit and a deep-tongue kisses.) After failing to find a male friend, Peter gives up, but during an open house, he meets Sydney Fife (Jason Segel) and they hit it off over farting. The rest of the movie is about the progression of Peter and Sydney's friendship and how it affects Peter and Zooey's relationship.
Positives:
It's Funny!
1. The 'man-dates' are hilarious, as I mentioned above.
2. Sydney Fife (Jason Segel) is off-beat and most scenes with him in it have at least one laugh. Standout scenes: Dog-pooping scene(s) AND the engagement speech scene
3. Supporting cast: Are definite scene stealers. Standouts: Peter's gay brother Robbie (Andy Samberg) and dad (J.K. Simmons) as well as Zooey's friends Hailey (Sarah Burns) and Denise (Jamie Pressly).
Negatives:
It has annoying tendancies. . .
1. Peter Klevan (Paul Rudd) character: He definitely walked the line between endearing and totally annoying. He's a nervous kind of guy and seemed uncomfortable, which wasn't fun for me to watch most of the time.
2. The language: No, not offensive language BUT it's what I'll call 'Dude' language. A lot of shortening of words and made-up words and nicknames, etc.
3. Predictable Story-line: If you don't know by now, Sydney ends up being Peter's best man.
Overall, I thought this movie was okay. It made me laugh, but it's not a comedy I would particularly want to see again, let alone watch over and over. Therefore, it receives 2 out of 5 stars!
