Little Mosque on the Prairie
Generally I despise with a hellish passion tend to dislike non-animated sitcoms. They're usually vats of shit less funny than the laugh track would indicate, and if you watch them the terrorists win!!! simply oblivious to the line between stupid and funny.
That said, yesterday on CNN I saw some clips of a show coming to the Canadian Broadcasting Company, Little Mosque on the Prairie. This one actually appears to have believable, engaging characters, witty and intelligent dialogue and what is so severely lacking in most sitcoms: It's actually funny!
Of course the TV gods have chosen to put this gem up North in Canada- but all is not lost! Funny Canadian shows have managed to make their way down South, e.g. Second City TV and Red Green. These have both played on PBS stations in America... though PBS seems to be drowning in Britcoms these days.
Comedy Central might be a better match for the edgier Little Mosque on the Prairie. As a firm believer in going straight to the top I would like to urge my readers (yes, both of you!) to write to CC's parent company, Viacom, to urge them to get Comedy Central to pick up Little Mosque.
Now when writing to Viacom DON'T whine about how crappy most Viacom channels are or about how most CC programming blows goats- I'm not disputing that they do, but we want to make a good impression. DO impress on them how funny the clips from Little Mosque on the Prairie were, and how picking up that show would help CC attract more viewers to see it.
Also, DON'T try to pitch your own ideas for a show (or an episode of an existing show). Legally they simply cannot look at that sort of thing unless it's submitted through the proper and legal channels. DO be concise and to the point: "Little Mosque looks to be the funniest comedy in a long time, and Comedy Central should show it in the U.S.
DON'T use odd or artsy-cutesy fonts; you want to come across as the 20something professional that the advertising/programming world desperately wants and needs. DO be courteous, focused and demonstrate the ability to click on your spell-checker.
The address to write to is:

My letter is going out tomorrow.
