I'm Happy- Hope You're Happy Too!!

Oh boy!! Just an hour before we get a new episode of arguably the best show on TV, Battlestar Galactica. When last we saw our heroes the tension had been ramped up to the point where a planetkiller's anti-proton beam couldn't cut it. This show just keeps surprising me (in all the good ways) and tonight's will be a welcome relief from the drought.

In fact, I'm even having good thoughts for The Dresden Files. While SciFi is notorious for making inanely bad made-for-straight-to-bargain-bin-video movies, their series are good to excellent. Harry Dresden sounds like an intriguing lead for a series- will let you know how it works out later.

But wait- there's more!! Tomorrow night Heroes returns from hiatus. I started watching expecting that they were just trying to cash in on the popularity of the X-Men movies, but this is a compelling story in its own right. While the cliffhanger we left on wasn't nearly as intense as Galactica's, I'm still anxious to pick up the story again.

We'll have to wait another week or so for a new House, but I'm not greedy- oh, okay, I am, but since there's nothing I can do to affect their scheduling I can still enjoy the new shows that are here, and pre-empt the reruns later in the week with my own programming: A classic flick like Forbidden Planet, a meaningful comedy like Dogma, or even my favorite video comfort food: Skin-peelingly bad movies.

It's good to see the new episodes coming out- gotta run and finish supper in time to revel!!

BSG is waiting for me on my TiVo. I have an indie movie to watch first, so I probably won't get to it tonight. But I'll be back here later to talk about it.

You'll have to let us know how the Dresden Files turn out. I keep thinking I want to try it, but then again, I have an awful lot on my TV plate already.

It'll take a few episodes to be sure, but I liked the premiere of Dresden Files. Harry Dresden is not the stereotypical wizard type; he comes across as a believable, everyday sort of fellow. The writers seem to have struck a good balance: There is a definite and intricate backstory, yet they didn't need to drown us in exposition to get the opening episode through.

Okay, I finally got around to watching BSG. Good ep. My husband calls it my "soap opera". He likes sf, but he likes the more technical stuff, less character-driven storylines. Tears welled up in my eyes at one point.

Tech stuff is okay, but after years of Voyager I kind of burned out on "stories" that are just recitations of technobabble. If we don't care about the characters, we won't care about them or what they're doing no matter how cool the CGI or how pretty the blinking colored lights are.
