I swear to God I was meant to be a Gossip Girl
If only I had the money these kids have and lived in NYC, I can guarantee I'd be bitchier than Blair Waldorf. I love this show. And it just keeps getting better.
Initially I wasn't convinced. The OC had just ended, I was never wrapped in it and then this new show by the same producer (Josh Schwartz) comes along and I wasn't keen. But for some reason I started watching and even thoughI think the first season got off to a slow start, my interest in Kristen Bell (who is the voice of Gossip Girl) and the extreme pretty of the actors kept me watching and I've not been sorry. This is teen drama the way I think it's meant to be. It's got the plot, the cast are all stunning (Blake Lively and Leighton Meester are gorgeous as Serena Van Der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf) and the drama is convincing enough to keep viewers coming back.
In case you can't tell from the gushing above, this show is well worth paying Foxtel subscription to get.
So for those of you who are free-to-air only, here's the low-down. Gossip Girl is a show about a group of rich, over privileged elite Manhattan teens which is based on the YA fiction series of the same name. (Written by Cecily von Ziegesar). It's not the books. I read them as well and the books stand alone. The narrator, Gossip Girl (Kristen Bell) is omniscient and unseen, but tells the story of the characters lives through her gossip website. The teen characters in this are awesome. They bitch, they scheme; they're the mean girls who curled their noses at the girls who can't afford designer shoes to go with their pleated skirts (which, by the way, was me in school) and don't know how to wear their uniforms just right. They smoke, they drink, they have sex and they party but they look very pretty while they're doing it.
Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) and Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) are my favourite characters. Jenny, because she's the girl from Brooklyn who has had to fight for everything she has. At the moment, in the middle of season two, life pretty much sucks for her, but she is now oh so cool and has so much more than she did when the show started. I like her because she has always known exactly what she wants and has gone after it no matter what the consequences. She's gone from being the most sweet and innocent of all the girls to being a worthy rival for the show's uber bitch, Blair. I love Blair because she's gorgeous and snobby and she also goes after what she wants without a thought for the consequences. And her relationship with Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) ... so very, very hot.
If you're not watching this show, you totally should be. It airs on Fox 8, search your guide because it's usually repeated. For those of you in the US, Gossip Girl is on the CW on Mondays 8/7c.
No doubt, there will be many, many more entries about this show because it's on the very top of my favourite list this season. Right, now it's time for me to get ready to watch CSI.
You know you love me (!)
