Fashion Police 3/24/11
Heyyyyy! This is my Fashion Police, week in review 3/24/11. Every Thursday I'm going to click my way through www.people.com 'Last Night's Look: Hit or Miss?' and tell you what I like and what I didn't.
SUCKER PUNCHED
LOVE – Abbie Cornish in a curve-hugging cobalt gown and retro pin-curls to the Sucker Punch premiere in LA. I love the color on her, and the draping and fit of the bodice are really nice, plus I like her very retro up-do with modern make-up.
LIKE - Malin Akerman in a silky red colum gown with nude belt to the premiere of Sucker Punch premiere in LA. I think red is her color and she proves it yet again in this sexy frock.
LIKE – Vanessa Hudgens in a intricately beaded grays, silvers and blues beaded gown paired with a Judith Leiber clutch for the LA premiere of Sucker Punch. I could have lived without the short-sleeves, but I love her hair, the beading and the back of the dress.
TRYING TOO HARD
HATE – Kate Winslet in a peek-a-boo long-sleeve black Stella McCartney dress with an illusion polka-dot panel and a retro-style up-do to the NYC premiere of her HBO mini-series Mildred Pierce. I like her hair and make-up, but this the polka/sheer-panel just doesn’t work for me.
HATE – Leona Lewis in an ombre fringed one-shoulder black dress with horse-heard design to the Humane Society’s Genesis Awards in CA. I actually really like the silhouette on her, I like the shoes, I like the blunt bags, orange lip and green nails, but I hate the fringe and I hate the horse head to a humane society event.
HATE – Audrina Patridge in a sequined emerald key-hole dress to the Hollywood VH1 and Runway magazine event in her honor. Does someone need to remind her she’s no longer on Dancing with the Stars?
GIRLIE FROCKS
LOVE – Carrie Underwood in a blush-hued Herve Leger gown with sparkling collar and mermaid hem at the Points of Light Tribute for former President George H.W. Bush at the Kennedy Center in DC. I like the color on her and I think the bandage-effect of the bodice is really interesting when paired with the flowiness of the skirt.
LIKE – Whitney Port in a retro black asymmetrical frock paired with leopard-print booties and glowing make-up to the Shop It to Me’s An Unregrettable Evening in Hollywood, which she hosted. I love the neckline, and think she kept her spunk with the shoes, plus her hair and make-up are totally girlie.
LIKE – Emmy Rossum in a black and white multi-print frock paired with black Brian Atwood pumps to promote her show Shameless in NYC. I think the print is really interesting and the silhouette is very girlie.
HATE – Kristin Davis in a neon pink Oscar de la Renta frock full of ruffles and tiers and even a black center-bow paired with crisscrossing platforms to the Humane Society’s Genesis Awards in CA. This color is too vibrant, the ruffles to young and it makes her look bulkier than she is. It’s a dress made for a prom, and a bad one at that.
CASUAL ATTIRE
LOVE – Selena Gomez in a casual wide-stripped tunic, knee-high boots and black leggings paired with dog tags and a red knit scarf to the Concert for Hope in CA. I love the pop of color she brought this outfit with the scarf (and matching lips) and think it’s a great outfit for a concert.
LIKE – Katie Holmes in a pair of medium-wash flared jeans, a gray mini-floral and bowed blouse and cream & black tweed jacket while promoting her Holmes & Yang collection at Barneys in Beverly Hills. I love the jeans and top pairing, but I wish she left the jacket off (or paired it with something non-tweed).
HATE – Hilary Duff in a pinstriped oxford shirt with black leather leggings and gray platforms to support Blessings in a Backpack at a Chicago School. I’m not digging this outfit as a whole. I don’t mind her new bangs, but I think the color needs a lift. But then I also don’t like the gaping whole in the button up or the pairing of shoes to leggings to shirt.
GOOD/BAD WHITE BLAZERS
LOVE– Katie Holmes in a white tuxedo jacket with a black lapel paired with black cropped pants, and polka-dot pumps to the NYC premiere of her new film The Decision. I love this look, it looks smart, modern and I love her hair and make-up.
HATE – Elle MacPherson in animal-print harem pants, futuristic stacked heels and a white power blazer to the Bottega Veneta party in London. For me, everything here is over the top from hair and make-up all the way down to her metallic tipped toes.
STYLE MAVEN of the WEEK – TAYLOR SWIFT
LOVE– Taylor Swift in a white and pink floral dress, paired with a light gray cardigan, long key necklace and nude bow heels while out in London. I think this is what Taylor does best: it’s girlie, light and fun.
LOVE – Taylor Swift in a ruffled, one-shoulder red hot mini-dress with taupe Mary-Jane heels and her signature good luck charm – the number 13 – on the back of her hand while out in London. This is a really girlie dress, but also has a bit of sexiness with the color, great for a night out.
LIKE – Taylor Swift in a white lace Topshop mini with a black crinoline, matching skinny belt and lace-up Oxford heels while out in London. I really like her retro, conservative style and think she pulls it off yet again.
