Addictee: Fashion Police (1/27/11)
Heyyyyy! This is my Fashion Police, week in review 1/27/11. Every Thursday I'm going to click my way through www.people.com 'Last Night's Look: Hit or Miss?' and tell you what I like and what I didn't.
NOT SO BASIC BLACK
LOVE – Leighton Meester in a sleek leather and chiffon Michael Kors Collection gown (with side waist cut-outs) paired with Brian Atwood pumps to the LA screening of her new film The Roommate. I like the contrast of hard and soft, and think her sleek, straight hair paired with the dewy make-up match it well.
LIKE – Amy Adams in this black plunging neckline, full sleeved (with pointed shoulders) Andrew Gn LBD dress, with embellished detail paired with Sutra earrings, Kotur clutch and classic peep-toes to the Producers Guild Awards in Beverly Hills. I like the neckline on her, and also like that the rest of the dress is very simple in comparison, plus her hair is dynamite.
HATE – Alexa Chung in this tuxedo-inspired dress with buttons and bow tie, simple black clutch and ankle-strap peep-toe pumps to the Chanel fashion show in Paris. It looks as if she didn’t even try with her hair and make-up, but let’s talk about the dress. It just simply doesn’t fit her in the bust very well.
SEXY DRESSES
LOVE – Olivia Wilde in a glittering deep-V-neck sheath and sculpted bangs to the Armani Prive Haute Couture fashion show in Paris. The dress clings to all the right places, plus I like the haphazard pattern.
LIKE – Heidi Klum in a embellished black LBD at an InStyle BAFTA event in London. I think the hemline is sexy, but I also like that she covered up the top with the cap sleeve and sheer neckline. I also like her up-do hair and glowing make-up.
HATE – Audrina Patridge in a studded orange micro-mini-dress paired with black bow-shaped clutch and simple black sandals while out on the town in LA. I’m sad I have to give this a ‘HATE’, because I think the hair, make-up, clutch and shoes are all great, plus she totally has the legs to pull off a micro-mini… but the color and the studs ruin it for me.
FUN & FLIRTY
LOVE – Jessica Alba in a black top/jacket/scarf and a flirty floral skirt paired with opaque black tights and chunky lace-up booties while out shopping in Paris. The shoes are super fun and the skirt is super flirty… love it.
LIKE – Thandie Newton in a plunging grey and blue dress with an obi belt and white and black peep-toe pumps to the InStyle BAFTA party in London. I think the silhouette of the mini-dress is great on her (it’s flirty!), and I love the color combination (it’s fun!). I think I would have done different shoes, hair and make-up but the dress/belt wins me over.
HATE – Ashley Tisdale in an off-the-shoulder cream lace blouse paired with short lacy shorts and paired with creamy strappy sandals during an interview at LA’s The Grove. I think her hair looks fantastic and I like her jewelry, but the get up seems forced.
BEST AND WORST OF DIANE KRUGER
LOVE – Diane Kruger in a beaded and fringed Gucci gold/black dress to the Gucci cocktail party in Paris. I love the halter neckline on her, and think the length and fit are fabulous. Plus I love her golden smoky eye, and those shoes are divine.
HATE – Diane Kruger in a camel jewel-encrusted shift dress paired with strappy heels and retro accessories to the Chanel Haute Couture show. I think the pleats are pretty and her shoes are killer, but the camel and the beading looks too old-fashioned for me.
DEMI MOORE’S A GOTH?
LOVE – Demi Moore in a tailored black blazer over an A-line LBD, both by Rag & Bone paired with an Anita Ko necklace, Jimmy Choo booties and purple top handle tote. I think the fit of the blazer and the black all the way down slims her already amazing figure, but the reason I like this one the most out of the three is that at least she added a pop of color (with the bag)!
LIKE – Demi Moore in a metallic black Victoria Beckham frock paired with ankle boots and tights to the Sundance premiere of Margin Call. I like the sheen and fit of the dress (look at those toned arms!)… but all black, again?!
HATE – Demi Moore in an arm-baring all black ensemble paired with Sally Sohn rings and high-heeled black leather Casadei boots to the Sundance premiere of Another Happy Day. For me this one is too depressing.
THE HILLS ARE ALIVE (IN SKINNY JEANS)
LIKE – Kristin Cavallari in a loose and worn-out white tank paired with distressed skinny jeans and open-toe booties while shopping at The Grove in LA. I think this look is super casual, but still smoking hott.
LIKE – Lauren Conrad in red and white striped long-sleeved t-shirt, dark denim skinny jeans and sandals while out in Beverly Hills. Her new darker hair is gorgeous; she almost looks like a 70’s throwback (in the best possible way) in this picture.
LIKE – Lo Bosworth in a open-shouldered and bedazzled blouse over dark skinny jeans and platform sandals while in Boca Raton, Florida. I think the shirt is unique and feminine, and I love her drop earrings.
WHAT THE HECK?
HATE – Heidi Klum in a bright pleated jumpsuit with angle ties paired with an intricate side up-do, a brown belt and matching peep-toe heels to a promotional appearance in Germany. I like the color combination here, but that’s where my love ends. The ankle ties are crazy and her hair is even crazier.
STYLE MAVEN of the WEEK – KATE BOSWORTH
LOVE – Kate Bosworth in a sheer floral and crochet-lace Dolce & Gabbana gown with a waist-cinching belt to the Creative Coalition’s 2011 Spotlight Initiative Awards at TAO in Utah. Kate has a very unique fashion sense, but I think the top fits her beautifully and the skirt is very pretty as well, and I don’t see anyone else pulling it off like she can.
LOVE – Kate Bosworth in a peek-a-boo leather bodice Chloe dress, paired with opaque black tights and booties to the Sundance premiere of Another Happy Day. I think the dress length is very conservative but, the key-hole and the leather bring the sexiness up a few notches.
