Cashmere Mafia - Episode Two
"Lesbians are the new babies" - Mia Mason on Cashmere Mafia
I will say that episode 2 of Cashmere Mafia was a lot better than the pilot (Though most shows tend to be like that) but I still haven't completely come around since my review of the pilot episode.
One major factor being the fashion is overpowering the actresses. I have to wonder who is the heck is the costumer for this show?! In the opening scene of episode two, Lucy Liu's Mia Mason is in a smart black number that is ruined by the overly enormous puffy white sleeves. In a later scene she's seen in a leopard print outfit that forces you to stare at the outfit instead of the actress and go What The?!
I'm still really liking Bonnie Somerville's character Caitlin Dowd the most. Bonnie brings the most to screen, yet she's the actress with the least in her filmography. She's fun, bright and very personable compared to the other three actresses especially Miranda Otto.
Otto plays Juliet Draper with such an icy coldness I swear the screen was freezing over and sure the character does call for some icy behavior, but it seems as though Otto is over doing it to the point where you feel as though Juliet probably brought it on herself to be cheated on by her husband.
Another step up is Frances O'Connor's Zoe Burden. I'm liking this work mommy vs stay at home mommy storyline and was actually on her side when she didn't want her husband to take the kitchen remodel job with the woman who was hitting on him.
I say bring on the next episode, but please tone down the over powering clothing. If I had to choose between loosing the ridiculous clothing or putting Miranda Otto in front of a heater, I'd loose the clothing.

Also thought second episode was an improvement but am a long way from being a convert with any conviction.
The fashion madam is Patricia Field a la SATC. Am digging the costumes. Pat has actually toned down a little bit while still being quirky and interesting.
The clothes and Bonnie are the best things so far. But you're right about Miranda - she seems to have been modelled on redhead icequeen reminiscent of DHW's Bree.
In fact, too many things are reminiscent of others. It's lacking a freshness, and instead seems a combination of pop culture storylines. It's less than convincing so far, but I suppose I'll give it a few more episodes!
