Big Brother 13 Finale 9/14/11
Big Brother 13, Finale: Floaters grab a life vest vs. Floaters grab a paycheck>
After a quick recap of the season, Chenbot brought us back to last week and the first part of the final HOH competition. You know, the one where the Final 3 were spinning around in a pool of butter getting colorful goop sprayed at them.
CONCLUSION - HOH PART 1
It was Rachel's competition to lose. She's shown all season that pure endurance competitions are her strong suit. And she didn't disappoint. It was clear from the beginning that she was perfectly fine standing on the mini-ledge, spinning around in the butter. Adam and Porshe looked much less comfortable up there.
Adam started complaining about his legs and body hurting. He even started telling the other two that he wasn't going to last much longer. Then he falls off. He tells us that he knew he wasn't going to win and wanted to conserve his energy for the next rounds (yeah… that's the reason).
Porshe wanted the win, but the spinning was definitely taking a toll on her. She looked visibly ill up there and after a quick conversation with Adam (she asked if Rachel looked fine… he said yes), her confidence went down even more. She didn't want to spin around in her own puke and her body seemed to melt down the pole before she jumped in the pool of butter.
RACHEL WINS HOH - PART 1!
Rachel looked like she could have stayed up there all night, and beamed as she bounced out of butter pool. Poor Porshe didn't seem to have the strength to pull herself out; Adam had to help her.
Before we could get to Parts 2 & 3 though, we had to make a stop to the…
JURY HOUSE
The losers (Brendan, Dani, Jeff & Shelly) gave their opinions on who they thought would be joining them… unsurprisingly Brendan & Jeff said they wanted to see any combination of Porshe, Kalia or Adam, while Dani spout out Rachel.
Then Kalia walked in. She seemed to be reveling in the spotlight, but it was stolen just as she just started her eviction story when Jordan walked in…
The tide of the conversation switched to who deserved to win out of the 3 remaining houseguests.
RACHEL - Brendan, Jordan & Jeff were team Rachel citing her as the best competitor this season, that had a target on her yet no one evicted her. Dani was totally against that, calling Rachel a floater. (Um… no… she was just on the opposite side from Dani & was able to make good enough deals this year to keep herself safe.) Shelly called out Rachel's mean-spirited personality and questioned whether or not to reward that behavior. (She also had to defend her own behavior – she called it game play.)
PORSHE – Dani & Kalia were team Porshe. Kalia stated that she played when she needed too (winning the POV, HOH back-to-back) and that she stayed low the rest of the time. Jeff saw this as a floater strategy, and called out both of them (Porshe & Kalia) for playing Dani's game and not their own. Kalia got pissed at this. (Sorry, girl but you kind of did… the one time you "played your own game" you decided to save Rachel and evict Lawon which lead to Brenchel being back together for one more week --- so, good move?) Jeff (& Company) stressed the fact that Porshe didn't play from the beginning and barely talked to them at all (about strategy or otherwise).
ADAM – I actually agreed with Dani on this one. Adam is a "PIGGY-BACKER" – an ultimate floater that never made a decision for himself (It's such a good term, I wish I came up with it myself.) The one HOH he did win, it didn't really matter who he nominated, so the "decision" was easy. Everything else he left up to whoever was in power to tell him what to do. At least it seemed to me that he no chance to win against either Porshe or Rachel and that made me happy.
Then it was back to the house for the…
HOH COMPETITION – PART 2
It was Porshe vs. Adam in a timed underwater memory puzzle. I immediately thought Porshe had this on lock. She did well in the previous memory competition, plus she's not a heavy smoker like Adam and should have been able to hold her breath much easier.
But, I got to admit, the BB producers edited this segment wonderfully. I was left wondering if Adam pulled it off, even after he had to run out and grab his goggles (that he threw to the ground after the filled with water, but then realized he needed in order to see). Was it close?!
PORSHE WINS PART 2!
There was some talk about both Rachel & Porshe's Final 2 deal from both sides, each of them wondering if the other would hold up their end of the deal after winning Part 3.
HOH COMPETITION – PART 3
It was Porshe vs. Rachel in a trivia game. They had to guess the correct statement from a member of the Jury House. I immediately thought Rachel had it in the bag, like JeJo commented earlier, Porshe didn't even talk to them. But when Rachel missed her own Bukie-Bear's comment I was worried. She was able to pull off 2 correct answers (surprisingly Porshe's closest allies – Kalia & Dani) for the win…
RACHEL WINS HOH - PART 3!
That means Rachel had all the power. She would get to chose from Adam and Porshe and was guaranteed at least $50,000. After a quick commercial break, Porshe & Adam gave their final speeches.
Porshe congratulated Rachel in a mediocre speech, but then Adam came out of no where and told Rachel to keep him and kick out Porshe because quote "You said last season 'Floaters grab a life vest'. This season: Floaters grab a paycheck?"
SERIOUSLY!? SERIOUSLY ADAM?! YOU'RE CALLING OUT PORSHE AS A FLOATER?! SERIOUSLY?!
Okay, rant over. I think Rachel made the tough decision to bring Porshe with her. I think she knew she'd probably lose Kalia & Dani's vote right there, but it was better than bringing Adam (who everyone - except Adam - knows was the Ultimate Floater and new term – Piggy Backer).
RACHEL EVICTS ADAM!
RACHEL & PORSHE ARE THE FINAL 2!
RACHEL & PORSHE ARE THE FINAL 2!
Adam goes out to meet Chenbot after a couple of his growling screams. The biggest thing from interview was when Chenbot asked if Rachel made the right decision in evicting him when he answered:
"Yep. If I was in the Final 2, I woulda won!"
It should have been a humbling sign when the audience didn't cheer or gasp but instead burst into uncontrollable laughter at the mere suggestion. Adam is completely delusional of how his game-play aired on national television and he's in for a rude awakening when he watches the season back. But, from what I can tell, he'll blame it all on the editing and swear to anyone that will listen to him that he was a great player, worthy of coming back for another season (PLEASE BB DO NOT DO THAT TO US!)
Then the JURY was back and ready to ask their questions and vote. I don't think their questions had any impact on who they were going to vote for so, but the jist:
Rachel repeatedly told the jury how much she fought to stay in the house. She's won 4 HOH, 2 POVs, had to watch her fiancée be voted off 2x while also having the biggest target on her back (she was on the block 5 times), but was able to change her social game and make deals that kept her in the game. She even apologized for her mean-spirited actions (I wish she had said, "I know that my emotions get the best of me sometimes and I just can't control what comes out of my mouth sometimes. It's something that I know about myself, and I'm trying to control it."). She even did some butt-kissing with Kalia, playing to Kalia's insecurity that everyone thinks she played Dani's game, by telling her she needed to evict her because she thought she would win in the end.
Porshe decided to play up on her first week decision to vote out Keith, but that the down-side was that she got the golden key and couldn't compete like she wanted too. But that she played as hard as she could in competitions she was allowed to play in, and said she won 4 competitons, while coming in 2nd in another 4.
After the questions, I was hoping just as Rachel was that the Jury would vote based on the best overall game play from start to finish. Porshe had it easy for the 1st 4 weeks (she had the golden key), then jumped ship to Dani (during her 3 week power surge) and then finally started playing on day 50-something. Rachel has been playing since she stepped foot inside the house. She won the first HOH, was a part of what could have been a legendary Alum-Alliance, survived her fiancée being evicted twice (though it was tough the first go around), and was able to make social moves that actually benefited her instead of sinking her. The girl definitely deserved to win out of the two, even if you hate her.
JURY CASTS THEIR VOTES
Some had witty, sarcastic, dumb things to say… but the votes were cast.
Before announcing the winner, we had to visit with the first 5 evictees (Keith, Evil Dick, Dominic, Cassie & Lawon) first. They really only had time to talk to 2 of them… first, Evil Dick berated his daughter's decision to go against what he set up (the Alum Alliance). Dani rebuffed him saying she realized that she didn't like the Alums and didn't want to play with them compared to her friends (the Newbies) and that she doesn't regret her decision to do so. He called her ploy to get rid of Jeff playing "too hard, too fast" (DUH!), but Dani isn't biting. Chenbot questioned Jeff if he and Dani buried the hatchet. Short-answer: Negative.
Then Cassie got to speak about watching her BFF Shelly's game unfold and how it surprised her. Shelly, in turn, just said that her and Cassie will be life-long friends and that she never did anything against her. Cassie seemed to understand.
THEN THE VOTES!
4 votes for RACHEL, 2 votes (eventually 3, although Chenbot didn't even have to read Adam's vote) for PORSHE.
RACHEL WINS BIG BROTHER 13!!
Rachel wins the bragging rights and $500,000. Totally deserved and it was kind of poetic actually. It came down to 2 sides and 1 swing vote… that swing vote = Shelly, much like she was all season. I think she made the right decision based on game-play and not personal love/hate of the houseguest. I think Rachel deserved to win this season over Porshe (and I would have said the same thing over Adam, Jordan, and Kalia). Rachel redeemed her villainess-self from last season into the root-worthy hero of today. You don't have to like her, but you have to admit she played a much better game this season.
I see Brenchel joining the Amazing Race now right? Or trying to pawn their wedding story to CBS? Come on now, who wouldn't want to watch that train wreck?
It also means that PORSHE wins the second place trophy of $50,000. Not to bad for running around in bikinis and sweatsuits for a summer...
And who's AMERICA'S FAVORITE HOUSEGUEST?! JEFF!
Duh! He wins a cool $25,000.
So, I'm completely satisfied with this season of BB. I think the most deserving person won. Plus, the person I least wanted to see win any money at the end (ADAM) didn't get a dime. Oh, Big Brother. I heart thee. 'Til next summer folks.
