TeeVee: American Idol Los Angeles Auditions
American Idol, Season 10 (Wednesdays & Thursdays at 8PM on FOX)
Now I know why the Wednesday's Austin Auditions episode was so light on the train-wreck segments… it was so they could overload us with them during last night’s LA auditions. I find it hard to believe LA has so little “good” talent… but maybe it’s not that; maybe it’s that LA had the whackest “train wrecks”.
So let’s get to the few featured singers that actually got those Golden Tickets to the next round:
Tim Halperin – The 23 year old that has had a crush on J.Lo since “5th or 6th grade”. He sang Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved” and seemed to be flirting with J.Lo the whole time. Randy wasn’t sure about him, but J.Lo thought he had a “special tone” so he gets a Golden Ticket.

My FAV of the Night - Karen Rodriguez – The 21 year old MySpace auditioner that had sang for J.Lo on TRL (remember when MTV played music videos?!) She sang Whitney Houston’s “You Give Good Love” to which S.Ty commented “You got the spit, you got the fire” which translates into a Yes to a Golden Ticket. She wants to be the first Latina American Idol.

Justin Carter -The “Not Enough B@lls” Guy – J.Lo called him out for not having enough “b@lls”, or the depth to sing the song he chose, although they made it seem like he didn’t get a Golden Ticket… he actually did!

Heidi Khzam – The 23-year old that was featured belly dancing longer than actually singing. She sings Alicia Keys’ “Superwoman” and she gets pushed through to Hollywood more on her hip shaking than singing talents (she was okay, but not great).

Marc & Aaron Gutierrez – The brothers who sang a duet of “Lean on Me”; they seemed to have great personalities, and they didn’t even have to sing separately. They both got Golden Tickets.

Now on to the overwhelmingly bad…
The One I’m Mad that AI Featured - Matt “Big Stats” Frankel – He’s a CEO of an entertainment empire that includes a compilation CD featuring Chaka Khan. He comes in and raps and sings a J.Lo tune and ultimately gets a no from the judges which surmounts into “a beef” with Randy. The reason why I’m mad that AI featured him is because I think he’s at least borderline mentally challenged, and it’s not fun to make fun of someone with disabilities. Now, I know what you’re thinking… basically all the “train wrecks” must be mentally challenged, but that’s not really true. Sure they might be odd or messed up in the head, but they’re not mentally challenged, which I believe Matt is (at least borderline). It just crosses the line in my opinion.

The WHACKEST Audition Award = Tynisha Roches – The 25-year old MySpace audtioner that came in with her own mic and signature tag-line “OW”. She tried to sing Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” but forgot most of the words. When Randy tried to walk off Simon Cowell-style, she chased him singing "You're Gonna Love Me". She didn’t want to hear “no”, but was finally escorted out by a giant security guard.

PURE CRAZY Award = Cooper Robinson – The 59-year old (maybe) from the back woods of Arkansas in a pirate suit. I don’t know how he escaped the back woods and landed himself in LA, and I don’t really want to find out. He does a rendition of “I Feel Good” and it was just pure crazy.

The Biggest Waste of Time Award = Daniel Gomez and Isaac Rodriquez – the “buddies” (really AI, we can’t say they’re dating?) that support each other’s singing. One even dropped out of college to try out for AI (good thinking you!) The both are pretty bad (sings “I’ll Be” and “Build Me Up Buttercup” respectively), and both get nos, but they weren’t that interesting in my opinion and we had to watch a whole segment on them because AI is borderline homophobic and thought it would be funny. LAME.

Honorable Mentions –
1. The Pants on the Ground 2.0 Guy who literally dropped his pants. I’m guessing he didn’t really think about the lyrics, since the second line is “Lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground”… fool.
2. Victoria Garrett – God brought her to American Idol, but the judges think she sings like a lamb…

There's only ONE audition city left... SAN FRAN! Which is being promoted as one of the best, so here's to hoping that's true. I can't wait for the audition rounds to be over, and we can start whittling down the Golden Ticket Winners to the Top 40, check out my spoilers post! And then finally to the Top 10, 12, 13, 15 (whatever the AI producers decide)!!
