Amazing Race Unfinished Business Episode 6
The Amazing Race Unfinished Business (Sundays at 8ishPM on CBS)
We catch up with the teams after the double-leg as they get their first clue sending them off to Jin Fu Yi Zhan Tea Shop in China. Most teams were a bit disappointed with the first clue, considering it still had to do with China. They were all ready to jet-set outta there.
The Cowbros rushed off first, followed by all the other teams with Friends Zev & Justin in last place.
All the teams made it to the tea shop, and sampled some tea before receiving their next clue. No one seemed to realize that this tea tasting may be important later, as Phil told us in a voice over that teams will have to pick out this flavor of tea later on in the leg.
They all got their next clue telling them to fly to Kolkata, India. All teams made it on the same flight. They arrived at nearly 1AM to a crowd of people. They all hailed taxis and raced to the local Town Hall, only to realize they must wait until 10AM to get inside.
I thought it was pretty funny that the Globetrotters made Father-Daughter teams Ron & Christina and Gary & Mallory run off in the opposite direction for no reason.
Once the gates opened at 10AM, the teams raced to the…
ROADBLOCK – After bringing a papaya, a mango and the block of tea to the judge, one member of the team must correctly identify the tea they tasted back in China out of thousands of teas set up on a long table. It reminded me of the pick the fake sushi challenge from last season, because the racers had to drink the tea before presenting the cup to the judge.
This proved to be just as hard as that challenge too… at least for some. Ron, the foodie that he is, however, had no problem picking out the right tea. He chose to sniff the teas looking for that mango flavor and found it pretty quickly, as he and his daughter jetted off with their Snapple to the next stop. Teams had to realize they needed to look under the cap in order to find the next destination, and they did that easily.
The Cowbros Jet & Cord also got lucky with their tea. Jet realized that sight wouldn’t do it and also went for the smell… it worked out for them, and they raced off behind Ron & Christina. They too, realized the next clue was on the cap and they jumped in a cab.
Sistas Kisha & Jen got really lucky, since Kisha was going by sight alone and happened upon the right cup in third place. But they lost some steam when they didn’t open the Snapple bottle, instead they figured the next stop must be where they MAKE Snapple. They got in a cab, and constantly asked locals where Snapple was made.
By this time in the tea room, things weren’t looking so hot. Mallory, Flight Time, Zev, Luke and Kent were just randomly picking teas to guzzle down and bring up to the judge. Kent and Mallory were the next to pick the correct teas as they raced off, both realizing the caps held their next destination. So that left Luke, Flight Time and Zev (in his gray PJs) fighting it out.
The next stop was the Tiwari Tea Stall in Jorashanko and although Ron & Christina were having cabbie troubles, they didn’t lose too much time, but they arrived after the Cowbros. Kisha & Jen realized they were going in circles, got out to ask about the Snapple factory again, only to finally realize the destination was under the cap. Luckily for them, they were in the immediate area and didn’t lose much time being too far away.
Hindu Art – the teams had to paint, dress and adorn a statue of Ganesha (the elephant-headed Hindu god) in order to get their next clue.
Bengali Literature – the teams must deliver eight big stacks of children’s books to a local school using a traditional Indian school bus as transportation.
Father-Daughter team Ron & Christina, the Goths Kent & Vyxsin and Sistas Kisha & Jen decide to do Hindu Art. While the Cowbros Jet & Cord and Father-Daughter team Gary & Mallory opted for Bengali Literature.
While those teams started on the Detour, back at the tea house things were looking bleak. As each team were fighting not to be last. Zev finally got the right tea cup and the Friends raced to the next clue leaving Flight Time & Luke to battle it out. Flight Time said it was the hardest thing he’s ever done and Luke was getting more and more frustrated.
Flight Time found the right tea and the Globetrotters left Mother-Son team at the tea party in last place. Luke broke down in tears citing how hard this challenge was and Margie could only look on, give him a hug and tell him to keep going.
He tried a few more cups before breaking down again. Margie told him she knows it’s hard, but that he would hate himself if he didn’t finish. The men responsible for cleaning up the cups rallied behind Luke and you could tell the judge wanted to give him a yes so badly. After a few more cups, Luke had finally gotten the right tea! The guys cheered and lifted Luke up as Margie rushed in for a hug. It brought a tear to my eye and I willed them to keep fighting.
Meanwhile, Father-Daughter team Gary & Mallory found the publishing house first, got correct directions and a fast bus driver and arrived at the school in record time. They were the first to get the clue to the next PITSTOP – The Fountain of Joy.
They made it there easily, and Phil went into a long explanation about the new Snapple Amazing Race teas and made Mallory drink it. Gary & Mallory seemed surprised to come in 1st, as they won 1 million rupees or nearly $20,000 to split.
The Bengali Literature Detour proved to be the fastest since the Cowbros and Friends Zev & Justin both made quick time of it.
The Hindu Art Detour seemed to take more time considering the amount of paint and detail that went into it. Ron & Christina how left the tea room first battled against the noise with Goths Kent & Vyxsin relishing in the challenge because of all the pink and painted eyebrows. Sistas Kisha & Jen were also trekking through.
So by the time each team finished it was a race to the PITSTOP in afternoon rush-hour traffic. The Cowbros, Ron & Christina, and Zev & Justin all arrived in rapid succession and once Phil told them the order, the Goths raced up to learn they were in 5th (not 4th like Cord implied).
Sistas Kisha & Jen arrived a little bit later to come in 6th overall.
So that just left the Globetrotters vs. Margie & Luke. Flight Time & Big Easy chose Hindu Art which had me begging my TV for Margie & Luke to chose Bengali Literature, however they chose Hindu Art as well. I like both teams so I wasn’t sure who to root for but I found myself wanted Margie & Luke to stick around. When Flight Time dumped some brown paint on the statue, they lost some time, as Margie & Luke just pushed on.
The Globetrotters finished the Hindu Art Detour first, but Flight Time made the time to hug it out with Margie & Luke (awe! What a great guy!), then they had trouble finding a taxi… giving Margie & Luke even more time to catch up.
I was hoping Margie & Luke would show up at the mat somehow before the Globetrotters, but it didn’t happen. Flight Time & Big Easy got to Phil first and were grateful to be there in 7th place.
Margie & Luke got to the mat last and were Philiminated from the race. I’ll miss them, because I love calm and cool Margie and firecracker Luke. They’re probably one of my favorite all-time Amazing Race teams.
