Addictee Fashion Special - Met Gala '11
Heyyyyy! This is a special edition of Addictee's Fashion Police, dedicated to a major night of fashion... The Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala!
LOVES
LOVE - Diane Kruger in a slim-fitting, slit-to-there Jason Wu number with a floral embellished top that required 500 hours of hand embroidery, Jimmy Choo bag and Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry. I love the fit of the bodice with the long sleeves and the sex appeal of the slit. She's old-hollywood glamor to the most.
LOVE - Gisele Bundchen in a strapless, fire-engine red archive Alexander McQueen gown with a dramatic train, which she pairs with glittering Van Cleef & Arpels earrings and retro waves. (Handsome quarterback husband Tom Brady, wearing a tux by Tom Ford.) I think the dress is classic and a knock-out.
LOVE - Michelle Williams in a golden swallow-embellished, black, custom Miu Miu gown with grosgrain bow details, plus subtly glamorous vintage Fred Leighton jewels. The fit of this dress is perfect for her; she looks elegant, but has that touch of fun with the bird-detail.
LOVE - Zoe Saldana in a striking yellow, belted Calvin Klein Collection column with a long train and gold collar from Platt Boutique Jewelry. I love yellow, and it totally works on her skin tone.
LOVE - Claire Danes in a shimmering gold V-neck Calvin Klein Collection gown by the brand's creative director, which she accents with Fred Leighton jewels. The silhouette is simple, but the sheen of gold makes her sparkle.
LOVE - Eva Mendes in a deep blue, pleated silk Stella McCartney gown with a thick gold belt, finishing the glam get-up with Fred Leighton jewels. I love the color of the gown and the draped pleating is gorgeous.
LOVE - Ginnifer Goodwin in a plunging emerald wrap Topshop dress, adding sparkle with a Van Cleef & Arpels "Art Deco Zip" necklace and 1964 "Estate" turquoise and pearl ring, plus contrasting eggplant Aperlai sandals and a Kotur clutch. I love the risk she took, love the color, love the cut-out and shape of the dress and her jewelry!
LOVE - Maggie Gyllenhaal in a blue sequin bias cut Stella McCartney gown and her husband, Peter Sarsgaard in a peak label Yves Saint Laurent tux. I love the cut of the dress and the simply stunning blue color.
LOVE - Christina Ricci a spiderwebby lace Zac Posen gown with full trumpet skirt. She completes the dark glamour with Fred Leighton ruby-and-diamond earrings and jade-and-enamel evening bag. This may be a shock to some for landing in my LOVES, but it's truly a show-stopping dress, and her body looks amazing in it.
LOVE - Evan Rachel Wood in an embellished burgundy Gucci gown with strappy sandals and Fred Leighton jewelry. I love the color and the neckline of this dress, plus she upped it with a unique up-do.
LOVE - Hailee Steinfeld in a lace-embroidered Stella McCartney asymmetrical gown and Nicholas Kirkwood platform sandals. I think it's stunning (especially for a mullet-dress) and completely age-appropriate.
LIKES
LIKE - Ashley Greene in a one-of-a-kind, blush tulle Donna Karan gown with a major mermaid train, made just for her. She finishes the look with shoes by Brian Atwood, a Judith Leiber clutch and Lorraine Schwartz jewels. I think she looks stunning, but maybe a little safe.
LIKE - Taylor Swift in a super-romantic black and nude lace J. Mendel petal gown, designed by her date, designer Gilles Mendel. She adds Lorraine Schwartz jewels, Christian Louboutin pumps and bold crimson lips. I think this was a bold and exciting choice for Ms. Swift, and I applaud her for it.
LIKE - Jennifer Hudson in a gray pleated organza Vera Wang gown with off-white tulle rosettes, accented with vintage diamond Fred Leighton sparklers. I love the bodice on her and think it's a very pretty dress.
LIKE - Kate Hudson in a gold stretch silk and crystal embroidered strapless Stella McCartney gown. She finishes the look with an Edie Parker clutch, Casadei platforms and Fred Leighton jewels. She continues to glow in this golden number while showing off her impressive bump.
LIKE - Rihanna in a one-shoulder peekaboo lace Stella McCartney gown, Christian Louboutin sandals and Wilfredo Rosado fine jewelry. I almost didn't like the dress, but I think it's unique and edgy, but she looks oddly sophisticated and sexy at the same time in it.
LIKE - Penelope Cruz in a black ruffled Oscar de la Renta gown with mermaid skirt and feather-embellished bag, accented with 93 carats of Chopard diamonds and Jimmy Choo heels. Not a big fashion leap for Penelope, but at least she knows what she looks good in.
LIKE - Dianna Agron in a red silk column gown, gold platform sandal, major metallic cuff and crystal earrings – all by Michael Kors, who accompanied her to the bash. I love this neckline; I think the color works for her, and the hair and make-up are fresh and clean.
LIKE - Lea Michele in a custom red silk faille Escada gown and geode-and-diamond Kimberly McDonald drop earrings. The red looks great on her and I like the fact that she did a slimmed down mermaid silhouette.
LIKE - Freida Pinto in a white silk Chanel Haute Couture gown, adding a bold Chopard watch and earrings and ladylike Chanel clutch into the mix. I think the white silk is flawless on her, but wish the black ribbon tie was a bow or more substantial or not there at all.
LIKE - Sofia Vergara in a playful Carolina Herrera strapless blossom print faille gown with olive waistband and Harry Winston sparklers. I love the color blocking and especially the white top and green sash belt, I could have lived without the floral embellishment.
LIKE - Emma Roberts in a cut-out Michael Kors white silk crepe column gown, black crocodile envelope clutch and 11 carats of Chopard diamond drop earrings. It's simple and classic and she looks great.
HATES
HATE - Beyonce in a curve-hugging, gold embellished black Emilio Pucci gown, Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Sergio Rossi heels. For me the silhouette and the embellishment is too gaudy.
HATE - Blake Lively in a pale gray pailette-embroidered Chanel Haute Couture gown, Lorraine Schwartz baubles and cream-colored Christian Louboutin sandals. For me,. the draping is too bed-sheet paired with the sheer/embellished top.
HATE - Miranda Kerr in a frothy white Marchesa mini, Nicholas Kirkwood platform sandals and Harry Winston jewels to match her haute husband, Orlando Bloom. This is a bit too "white swan" for me.
HATE - Kristin Stewart in a custom crimson and black Proenza Schouler gown, strappy black sandals and Fred Leighton jewels. I'm not sure if it's just the angle of the photo, but the dress seems to hang on her figure and the print does nothing for me.
HATE - Mary-Kate Olsen in a vintage Givenchy couture gown with emerald accents, which she complements with a Judith Leiber clutch and Van Cleef & Arpels jewels, including "Mandarin" garnet earrings and diamond rings. For me, it looks like a little girl playing dress up in her grandmother's mu-mu.
HATE - Fergie in an embellished Marchesa mermaid gown with jewels from Harry Winston, including over $1 million in her hair. Her admiring husband, Josh Duhamel stays in step in his own high-shine Calvin Klein Collection suit and Harry Winston sparklers. For me, this is too wedding, circa 1990.
HATE - Liv Tyler in a white-and-yellow ombré Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci gown, which she accents with a yellow satin clutch and simple hair and makeup. Just no.
HATE - Amy Adams in a black curlicue-embroidered pink L'Wren Scott gown, completed with Brian Atwood pumps, a retro updo and more than $100,000 worth of Cartier bling. I hate the braided hair and I think she looks uncomfortable in the dress.
HATE - Iman in a bronze and gold embroidered long sleeve Stella McCartney jumpsuit and Fred Leighton jewels. I don't think it's supportive or classy enough for the event.
HATE - Kirsten Dunst in a floral sequin-embroidered Chanel Haute Couture off-the-shoulder tea-length dress with bow-embellished pumps and Fred Leighton earrings. I hate the neckline, I hate her hair, I hate the length and I hate the pattern.
HATE - Lucy Lui in saucy sheer and feathered black Vionnet gown with Sergio Rossi heels and eye-catching Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. This gown is not figure flattering at all.
HATE - Mary J. Blige in a Gucci greige column gown with heavy embellishment on the straps and waist. A bronze box clutch and Lorraine Schwartz jewels complete the look. For me it looks like she's strapped in.
HATE - Joy Bryant a pink-and-orange, striped knit Missoni sweater and sweeping skirt with an elegant updo, Alexandre Herchcovitch clutch and chandeliers. This is far too casual for the event.
HATE - Elle Fanning in a Valentino Haute Couture white long sleeve top with black bolero and skirt, worn with sweet bow flats. Now, I know she's only 13, but someone else must be in the changing room with her right?
HATE - Naomi Campbell in a white Alexander McQueen gown and 1930s Fred Leighton diamond-and-platinum brooch in her hair. This dress doesn't seem to fit her correctly, and the embellishment at the top is odd.
