Addictee Fashion Police 4/28/11
Heyyyyy! This is my Fashion Police, week in review 4/28/11. Every Thursday I'm going to click my way through www.people.com 'Last Night's Look: Hit or Miss?' and tell you what I like and what I didn't.
ROYAL WEDDING WINNER
LOVE - Kate Middleton in her McQueen wedding dress. I love the lace sleeves and bodice and the full ball gown, I really don't think she could have been more beautiful, classic yet still completely modern.
RED HOT
LOVE - Reese Witherspoon in one-shoulder draped, crimson sheath, Cartier earrings and black pumps to a Water for Elephants event. I love the color on her, and the draping is very pretty.
LIKE - Katie Holmes a tomato-red miniskirt and cross-body bag by Ann Taylor paired with a white button-up and Miu Miu sandal – plus her beloved Jennifer Meyer initial necklace to an Ann Taylor event in LA. No wonder the brand chose her to be the face, she looks gorgeously chic in their clothes.
HATE - Eva Mendes in matching crimson lips to her Gucci gown and adding vintage Van Cleef & Arpels jewels and Jimmy Choo sandals at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of Last Night in NYC. Although I think she was aiming for retro, this just looks blah.
GIRLS in GOWNS
LOVE - Rihanna in a a plunging black gown with full peplum and long train, accessorizing the look with dangling earrings and black patent pumps for the DKMS gala in NYC. I think it's an edgy silhouette, but it's still elegant and classy.
LIKE - Blake Lively in an ocean-blue Zuhair Murad haute couture gown, and styles the look with Kimberly McDonald jewels and Christian Louboutin heels at the Time 100 gala in N.Y.C. Although the gown plus the newly strawberry blonde hair makes me think of Ariel from The Little Mermaid, I think she pulls it off.
HATE - Kelly Osbourne a corset top, fishtail skirt and plaid Vivienne Westwood blazer, the daughter of rock royalty turns out to celebrate her dad at the Tribeca Film Festival premiere of God Bless Ozzy Osbourne. I almost like this look, but I wish she didn't pair it with the odd lapel blazer.
PATTERNS
LOVE - Leigthon Meester in a floral skirt by Vera Wang, Cathy Waterman jewels and Brian Atwood pumps to an NYC event in honor of leukemia charity DKMS. I love the length and pattern of the skirt and the pairing with the simple top. I wish she did more with hair and make-up but I'll let it slide.
LIKE - Nicole Richie in a red floral maxi, Jennifer Meyer necklace and stacked bangles while showcasing her Winter Kate's collection at Neiman Marcus in Coral Gables, FL. I love the bohemian-chic look, it's causal and cute.
HATE - Naomi Watts in a printed Chanel maxi and a collarless blazer at the Creative Coalition Spotlight Initiative Awards in NYC. I guess I just don't really dig the color combination and the pattern of this dress...
JUST NOs
HATE - Diane Kruger in a demure pink No. 21 dress, turquoise Brian Atwood pumps and Raven Kauffman clutch for the Berlin premiere of Lily Sometimes. For me the light pink lace number is too old-fashioned, yet too Easter-egg.
HATE - Alexa Chung in a striped button-down, tucked into cut-off denim shorts and leopard booties at the Madewell's store opening in NYC to benefit the Whitney Contemporaries. (the shirt and booties are her own creation for the fall line of the brand). For me, the look on the whole looks like a mess, and it's most the denim cut-offs. Are they really appropriate for an event?
NOT SO BASIC BLACK
LOVE - Kate Hudson in a flowing black Fendi dress, paired with Casadei heels and Lana Jewelry earrings, for an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman. The pregnant and newly engaged star is just glowing and looks casual, yet totally chic in this dress.
LIKE - Olivia Wilde a body-skimming A.L.C. dress and Ruthie Davis peep toes and grabs a Judith Leiber clutch for the Tribeca Film Festival screening of Sun City Picture House. I think the plunging neckline paired with multi-strand necklaces and the front slit really make this basic black dress different, and sexy.
HATE - Anna Kendrick in a leopard-lace Zuhair Murad mini with black inserts, Kabana ring and Jimmy Choo pumps at a Vanity Fair party for N.Y.C.'s Tribeca Film Festival. For me, this dress is too over-designed and the lace and black panels do not hit her body in the most flattering way.
SKINNY PANTS
LOVE - Ashley Greene in her Louis Vuitton leather leggings, cardigan and clutch with a silk scarf, Cartier jewels and Jimmy Choo peep toes at the label's Glamour fête in Beverly Hills. If I had her legs, I'd wear skinny pants all the time.
LIKE - Emmy Rossum in a white blazer and black leather leggings with a neon yellow Kate Spade bag and leopard peep toes while heading to a Prince concert in LA. Looks like she's ready to dance the night away.
HATE - Minka Kelly in a casually chic ensemble of gray skinnies, sparkling striped top and draped blazer to celebrate her Off-Broadway debut in Love, Loss and What I Wore. I don't mind the top and blazer, but I think the color and fit of the skinny pant makes her look shorter and larger than she is.
STYLE MAVEN of the WEEK - ABIGAIL BRESLIN
LOVE - Abigail Breslin in a ruffled, one-shoulder white frock and nude peep toes at an Alice Olivia dinner hosted by designer Stacey Bendet in NYC. I think she's trying to show that she not a little girl anymore, and I think this dress does it. It's classy, it fits perfectly and the white is hot for spring.
LOVE - Abigail Breslin in in a beaded Elizabeth & James tunic, indigo denim and red peep toes at the Tribeca Film Festival Portrait Studio in NYC. I like this look especially for the low-key Tribeca Film Festival, I think she looks young, hip and cool.
