Addictee: Fashion Police 2/10/11
Heyyyyy! This is my Fashion Police, week in review 2/10/11. Every Thursday I'm going to click my way through www.people.com 'Last Night's Look: Hit or Miss?' and tell you what I like and what I didn't.
THE SWEET LOOKS
LOVE – Jennifer Lawrence in a pleated tea-length style white dress with waist-defining black belt and Roger Vivier sandals to the Academy Awards luncheon in Beverly Hills. I love the pleats, I love the neckline… everything screams sweet.
LIKE – Michelle Williams in a cream tweed skirt paired with a black key-hole top (both by Chanel) and matching Sergio Rossi Pumps to the Academy Awards luncheon in Beverly Hills. I really like the high-waist skirt paired with the black accessories. It’s simple but totally sweet.
LIKE – Selena Gomez purple jewel-tone wrap mini-dress by Reem Acra paired with embellished pumps and curly locks to the Justin Bieber: Never Say Never premiere in LA. This dress is sweet AND sexy, with emphasis on the sexy!
UNIMPRESSIVE BLUE FROCKS
HATE – Hayden Panettiere in a velvet blue Twenty8Twelve mini-dress paired with navy tights to a Super Bowl party in Dallas. For me there’s way too much going on here. You have the sheer of the neckline and sleeves, paired with the velvet of the dress, and then the not quite matching tights and shoes.
HATE – Natalie Portman in a silky azure Lanvin dress with a strand of beads and pretty pink pumps to the Academy Awards luncheon in Beverly Hills. Now, I almost feel bad giving a very pregnant Natalie a ‘HATE’, but this dress is so slouchy and boring.
HATE – Christina Hendricks in a long-sleeved blue shift dress and gold peep toe shoes to the Sundance Channel launch of Mad Men in Paris. Although I think the silhouette is fine on her curvy figure, the mid-tone blue blah fabric is a big downer.
LIKIN’ THE LEATHER LEGGINGS
LOVE – Kim Kardashian in a structured black blazer, layered tops, black leather pants and cap-toe pumps paired with jewelry from her own line (Belle Noel) at its LA launch. I love the necklace, and her casual up-do, I think she looks cool in this.
LIKE – Hilary Duff in a pair of leather leggings, a see-through top and cropped leather jacket paired with nude pumps and ombre locks while strolling through Paris. I think she looks chic, just right for the Parisian streets.
LIKE – Victoria Beckham in black leather leggings, a black boyfriend blazer, a loose fitting tee (to hide her tiny baby-bump!), studded pumps and oversized shades while at London’s Heathrow Airport. Baby-bump? What baby-bump?! She looks amazing.
HATE – Nicole Kidman in a form-fitting black leather skirt suit paired with matching strappy sandals to the Just Go With It screening in NYC. Now, I know she doesn’t fit the topic (leather leggings) but I’m making an exception. This leather outfit seems ill-proportioned and ill-fitting on the statuesque Kidman.
PATTERNS
LOVE – Heidi Klum in a fuchsia patterned sheath paired with crisscross sandals, retro curls and some serious ring-wear to her Lucky cover Hollywood party. I love everything about this look; the color’s great, the patterns amazing, the fit is perfect, the hair is lovely, the make-ups fresh and the jewelry is unique. Well done.
LIKE – Nicole Kidman in a gauzy red print Yves Saint Laurent frock with a fishtail hem and sultry scarlet heels to the Academy Awards nominations luncheon in Beverly Hills. I think the print is really pretty, and I like the feminine-retro silhouette on Nicole. I wish she paired it with nude/black shoes instead of the red, but overall I really like it.
HATE – Maggie Gyllenhaal in a printed wrap top and black skirt with matching tights and shoes to the after-party for her Three Sisters production at NYC’s Pangea restaurant. I think this whole ensemble is decades older than she should be wearing, especially paired with the red lip and the untamed bouffant hair-do.
LEA MICHELE LOVES WIDE LEGGED TROUSERS
LIKE – Lea Michele in a sparkly top, navy scarf and dark wide-leg trousers to the Audi event in Dallas before her Super Bowl pre-game performance. I think it was Lea’s mission to bring back wide legged trousers this Super Bowl, and she showed here they can look both casual and classy.
LIKE – Lea Michele in a cream pea coat and camel wide legged trousers as she sang “America The Beautiful” during the pre-game show of the Super Bowl in Dallas. I think she looked classy, plus she remembered all the words.
FEMININE BLACK FROCKS
LOVE – Dianna Agron in a classic black A-line dress, matching pumps and a stand-out pendant necklace while promoting her new movie, I Am Number Four on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. If she was channeling Audrey Hepburn I think she nailed it. She looks classic, feminine and gorgeous.
LIKE – Minka Kelly in a frilly black ruffled dress and silver patterned platforms to the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to promote The Roommate. The silhouette and accessories are really simple, but I think the ruffles make it pretty and feminine.
HATE – Jessica Szohr in a long-sleeve lacy, loose mini-dress paired with a printed clutch and Sergio Rossi pumps to a Super Bowl party in Dallas. The dress just seems too old-fashioned for the young starlet, especially when paired with the bag and shoes. She could have done better.
EXTRAS
LIKE – Renee Zellweger in a strapless grey Carolina Herrera ball-gown with metallic embellishment to the Golden Camera Awards in Berlin. I haven’t seen Renee out on the red carpet lately, but this dress is definitely a good comeback.
HATE – Miley Cyrus in a fringed floral kimono jacket and a super-flared jeans paired with funky jewelry and flat sandals to the Justin Bieber: Never Say Never premiere in LA. I know she likes this hippie-chic look, but I don’t think it’s right for a movie premiere.
STYLE MAVEN of the WEEK – FERGIE
LOVE – Fergie in gray skinny jeans, a textured motorcycle jacket, a loose wolf-print tee and heels while at a press conference in Dallas for her upcoming Half-Time performance this Super Bowl Sunday. I think she looks like a rock-star here.
LOVE – Fergie in a tiger-print sequin mini-dress by Randi Rahm, paired with a fitted leather jacket and open toe booties to the Sports Illustrated and the Black Eyed Peas Official Friday Night B4 Party in Dallas. The dress is figure-flattering and shows off her gorgeous gams, plus I like that she paired it with a fitted jacket.
LIKE - Fergie in a black leather mini-dress, fishnet stockings and a sparkling pair of football shoulder pads for her Superbowl Half-Time performance with the rest of the Black Eyed Peas (Will.I.Am pictured below). Although the performance has quality has been questioned by critics, I'm pretty sure she's one of the few that could pull of bedazzled shoulder pads.
