Addictee: Fashion Police 1/20/11
Heyyyyy! This is my Fashion Police, week in review 1/20/11. Every Thursday I'm going to click my way through www.people.com 'Last Night's Look: Hit or Miss?' and tell you what I like and what I didn't.
You won't find any Golden Globe fashion here, since it had it's own post. To check out the award show fashion, click here.
CRITIC’S CHOICE AWARDS
LOVE – Emma Stone in a sparkling silver halter gown (with gilded chain-link collar) a Balenciago by Nicolas Ghesquiere. It’s very edgy with the chain-link collar and metallic fabric, yet the silhouette is fun and flirty.
LOVE – Mila Kunis in a strapless black mini-dress by Nina Ricci paired with satin ankle-tie sandals, turquoise-accented layered necklaces and drop earrings. I think it’s cool, young and fun.
LIKE – Jennifer Lawrence in a graduated pink and tangerine sequin L’Wren Scott sheath paired with Martin Katz jewelry and nude Jimmy Choo sandals. I think the dress fits here really well, and the sparkle is great.
LIKE – Mandy Moore in this strapless shirred burgundy Monique Lhuillier gown with a soft gathered up-do and chandelier earrings. I really like the color and silhouette on her.
HATE – Elle Fanning in a sparkling drop-waist Valentino Haute Couture mini-dress with sheer sleeves and retro pumps. Now, I must say this looked better on the television screen, but I think she really lost me with the hair/make-up/accessories, but then again, she’s only 12.
HATE – Kim Kardashian in a coral-red Vera Wang mermaid gown, accessorized with Arunashi earrings and a Bavna bangle. For me the color is okay, but I hate the center seam and the tacked on ruffles on the bottom.
RETRO LOOKS
LOVE – Michelle Trachtenberg in a flapper-inspired crimson and purple Jenny Packham dress with plunging neckline, Swarovski clutch and peep-toe pumps. I really like the neckline paired with her sleek straight hair and think the color combination is unique and beautiful.
LIKE – Eva Mendes in an empire-waist blush Valentino gown with gathered shoulders and floral headband. I think the color is great on her and I like the feminine touches of the dress, but I could have done without the headband.
HATE – Nicole Richie in a strapless black fringed Emilio Pucci gown with retro-style pin curls and a wrist full of bangles to the Art of Elysium charity gala in LA. I actually really like the dress, shoe and accessory combination, but I think she took it too retro with the hair and make-up.
HAIR-TASTROPHES
HATE – Emma Roberts in an off-white ruffled frock by Julien MacDonald with sheer leaf-detailing, an Amanda Pearl clutch and platinum platforms at the Relativity Media and The Weinstein Company’s Golden Globes after-party. For me the dress is okay, but the messy up-do is unacceptable; it looks like she was partying a little TOO hard.
HATE – Gwyneth Paltrow in a body-huggin light pink Azzadine Alaia dress with ruffled detailing on the skirt, paired with bright pink Pierre Hardy peep-toe shoes at the Baume & Mercier Gala Evening event in Geneva, Switzerland. For me the dark roots and bed-head curls paired with the shiny face and dark eye make-up make the usually fresh-faced Paltrow look like she hasn’t slept (or showered) in days.
HATE – Amy Smart in a wide stripe shirt, paired with a different wide striped cardigan, with dark denim skinny jeans and dirty oxfords to the LA Art Show opening night premiere party. I think the stripes don’t work and her hair is flat and boring.
A JACKET & PANTS
LOVE – Camilla Belle in a slimming black tuxedo-inspired suit, with a nude, ruffled bra top to the premiere of From Prada to Nada in LA. I think the suit’s really well tailored, and I really like her hair and make-up combo. I’m not sure I would have went with a midriff baring bra-top, but you have to admit she has the body for it.
LIKE – Cate Blanchett in wide-legged white trousers, a fitted tuxedo jacket and a bold pink lip at the IWC party at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva. It’s different, but I think it works on her.
HATE – Winona Ryder in a striped tee under a black suit jacket paired with gold jewelry and black James jeans to the Berlin photo-call for The Dilemma. For me, the top and jacket don’t fit her well, so it looks frumpy and slumpy.
MIX AND MATCH
LOVE – Diane Kruger in a sparkling metallic green Azzaro apron dress paired with bold pink, red and black Jimmy Choo sandals and pink clutch. This shouldn’t work, and I shouldn’t like it, but I think she looks great in this; very unique.
LIKE – Hilary Duff in skintight jeans, a fitted lavender T-shirt paired with red fringe boots, a big wooly scarft and huge circle earrings while out to dinner in LA. I think the pairing of the casual t-shirt and jeans with red fringe booties, bold pattern purse and wintry scarf shouldn’t work, but I kind of like it!
HATE – Kirsten Dunst boldly mixing floral patterns with a Rodarte dress paired with burgundy T-strap shoes and deep red lips to the Art of Elysium gala. To me, it just doesn’t mix well.
ONE MORE LOVE
LOVE – Julianne Hough in a one shoulder bold amethyst gown with risqué cut-outs and high side slit paired with an armful of bangles, large hoops and black pumps to the Art of Elysium gala. I love the top portion of this dress and think the blue is great on her. Plus she can definitely pull off a slit.
STYLE MAVEN of the WEEK –Malin Akerman
LOVE – Malin Akerman in a citrus red structured mini-dress to the Bulgari event in Beverly Hills, accessorized with neutral platforms, gold bangle and an exotic clutch. I think the color’s fantastic on her, and I really liked the structure of the bodice and the pleating of the skirt.
LOVE – Malin Akerman in a bright red asymmetrical neckline silk jersey gown by Tommy Hilfiger, paired with a coordinating clutch, nude pumps, gold jewelry and red lips to the InStyle/Golden Globes party in LA. I think the neckline is really great.
